MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The provincial government of Pangasinan is targeting to vaccinate some 400,000 Pangasinenses in the second national vaccination day to complete the inoculation of 70 percent of the eligible population of the province and attain population protection.

In a phone interview on Wednesday, Provincial Health Office (PHO) chief Dr. Anna Ma.Teresa de Guzman said they hope the residents will cooperate on the second national vaccination day from December 15 to 17.

“We are positive to attain herd immunity (population protection) if our kababayans will cooperate, if not we will not be able to end the pandemic in the province since there are still cases being recorded in the province although we are at a very low risk now,” she said.

As of December 14, de Guzman said some 1.6 million doses of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines have been administered in the province as first dose or 74.51 percent of the total eligible population.

She said about one million doses for the second dose have also been administered, or 43.36 percent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated.

De Guzman said there are now 33 active cases of Covid-19 in Pangasinan, five of them are confined in private hospitals, 16 are in government hospitals, and the rest are in isolation or home quarantine.

“Probably, they are those who were vaccinated but have a family member or co-workers who are unvaccinated,” she said.

Twenty eight out of the 47 local government units in the province have zero cases.

However, there were two deaths recorded recently.

Meanwhile, de Guzman reminded the residents to still be vigilant and strictly observe minimum public health standards amid the holiday season.

“Although we are at a very low risk now, we should not be complacent and still observe minimum health standards and also to avoid inviting over (the) unvaccinated to gatherings in enclosed areas,” she said.

Pangasinan, including its chartered city of Dagupan, recorded the highest number of vaccinated individuals with 252,252 in the first national vaccination day from November 29 to December 1. (PNA)
