COTABATO CITY – An electrical technician was killed while his wife and son were wounded after gunmen ambushed them in Datu Odin Sinsuat (DOS) town, Maguindanao del Norte, Sunday evening.
Maj. Regie Albellera, the DOS police chief, identified the fatality as Haron Maulana, a local resident.
Injured and currently undergoing treatment in the hospital are his wife Joy Maulana and their 16-year-old child.
Albellera said the victims were onboard a Toyota Tamaraw FX vehicle driven by Haron when waylaid by gunmen along the section of the highway in Barangay Taviran around 7 p.m.
“They (victims) were from Barangay Poblacion Dalican and heading for Barangay Awang when the ambush occurred,” Albellera said.
Quoting witnesses near the ambush site, Albellera said gun bursts from automatic rifles were heard at the time of the incident.
Police found empty shells for M-16 and M-14 rifles at the ambush site.
Investigators have yet to determine the motive behind the attack. (PNA)
