LAOAG CITY – The Schools' Division Office (SDO) of Laoag City announced on Monday the need for more guidance counselors to fill long-time vacancies.

Due to retiring guidance counselors, Schools' Division Supt. Vilma Eda said there are eight vacancies for guidance counselors and one dentist as of this posting.

She said hiring for the vacant positions is a priority for the division, as it is vital to have enough qualified guidance counselors, teachers, and other staff to provide quality education.

“The SDO Laoag City has implemented various measures to ensure that hiring and promotion processes are transparent and efficient. If you have questions on the process, you are free to come to us in the office, so we can explain it properly,” Eda said.

Eda said applicants have a better chance to get hired with the department’s new guidelines on merit selection to ensure that at all governance levels, the department hires and retains the right people for the right job at the right time by adhering to the principles of merit, fitness, competence, equal opportunity, transparency, and accountability.

“This is to level up the playing field of applicants for vacant positions,” she added.

The Department of Education-Laoag City has made significant progress in hiring and promoting qualified candidates as it only takes a few weeks to process applications and deploy personnel to ensure the continuous delivery of services. (PNA)
