SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Bureau of Fire Protection’s (BFP) municipal stations in Antique, in coordination with barangay officials, are in the process of formulating their Community Fire Protection Plan (CFPP) to have zero fire incidents.

BFP-Antique fire marshal Supt. Patricio Collado said in an interview Thursday that each BFP municipal station in the province has been directed to identify an initial five barangays for which a CFPP would be formulated this year.

“The formulated CFPP varies depending on the assessment made by the BFP personnel,” Collado said.

He said the CFPP would be tailor-fitted for fire incidents in heavily congested barangays and those along the shorelines.

In a separate interview, San Jose de Buenavista fire chief Inspector Vic Matta said they have already started formulating a CFPP for barangays Malaiba and Maybato North for the first quarter of the year.

“We have actually identified five barangays in San Jose de Buenavista as high risk since they are congested areas, but that we started off with Malaiba and Maybato North,” Matta said.

He said they would also be coordinating with the barangay officials of Maybato Sur, San Angel, and Poblacion 4 for the plan within this month.

He also said that as part of the CFPP formulation, they surveyed the barangay streets to make sure their fire trucks could fit in them during a fire incident, as well as to determine the vulnerabilities, capabilities, and resources of the barangay.

“Once we are able to formulate the plan, we will also conduct (a) house-to-house survey to check their electrical system and then conduct simulation or fire drill among families,” Matta said.

He said these activities would be conducted by the second and third quarters of the year.

The BFP will train barangay officials, as members of the Community Fire Auxiliary Group (CFAG), on firefighting being the first-line responders.

Meanwhile, the BFP-Antique kicked off Fire Prevention Month on March 1 with a Unity Walk at the capitol ground.

The Antik Fire Show, a mall roadshow with an obstacle course and an amazing race for children, will also run at the Robinsons Place Antique from Thursday to Saturday. (PNA)
