ZAMBOANGA CITY – The provincial government of Basilan has released over PHP3.7 million as Ramadan bonus for its 759 employees.

Basilan Governor Hadjiman Hataman-Salliman has ordered the release of the bonus on Tuesday, the day the fasting month of Ramadan is presumed to start.

Salliman said each of the 759 employees, comprising 651 regulars and 108 casuals, is entitled to receive PHP5,000.

The grant of the Ramadan bonus is a tradition of Salliman’s administration since he was elected governor of Basilan province in 2013.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Chief Anwary Acalun, meanwhile, convened on Tuesday the members of the Basilan Ulama Supreme Council for the “moon sighting” that will signal the start of Ramadan on Wednesday.

Discussed during the meeting was the planned distribution of assistance to the different communities benefitting some 3,000 ulamas and imams in the province. (PNA)
