DAVAO CITY - The Police Regional Office in Davao Region (PRO-11) will implement a regionwide gun ban from March 20 to 31 in preparation for the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Race.
"This is to avoid any firearm-related incidents during the Ironman race. Random checkpoints have been added outside the checkpoints in the border areas of the region," said Maj. Catherine Dela Rey, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson, in a press briefing Wednesday.
The gun ban order prohibits non-uniformed individuals from carrying firearms outside their residences, even if they possess complete permits and licenses.
Only police officers, Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel, and other law enforcement agency members on duty and in uniform are permitted to carry firearms during the 12-day suspension.
Random checkpoints have been added outside the border areas of the region to avoid firearm-related incidents during the Ironman race, which is scheduled on March 26.
Dela Rey emphasized that violators will have to return to their area of origin or may deposit their weapons at the checkpoint where they were apprehended. If unable to comply with either action, they may have their permits suspended. (PNA)
