LAOAG CITY – Low-cost airline Cebu Pacific on Wednesday announced the resumption of its daily Manila-Laoag flights starting this May 22.

This came following Ilocos Norte’s aggressive promotion of its tourism industry even as frequent air flyers have been seeking alternative airlines aside from the Philippine Airlines to serve the Laoag route.

The budget airline’s last landing at the Laoag International Airport was on Jan. 13, 2017, and did not return as CebuPac’s operation expanded in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Xavier Ruiz, assistant tourism head at the Ilocos Norte government, shared his excitement on Wednesday as the demand for air travel or the so-called revenge tourism is rising in this northern gateway of Luzon.

“5J is IN!,” said Ruiz referring to the code of Cebu Pacific flights.

Aside from Cebu Pacific, the provincial government has been enticing other airlines to include the Laoag route in their area of operation.

With the continuous upgrading of the Laoag International Airport to accommodate bigger aircraft, Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc is also looking forward to the possibility of opening international flights to Kaohsiung, Taiwan due to its proximity to Laoag City. (PNA)
