602 applicants hired in May 1 job fairs in Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – A total of 602 job seekers from Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan have been hired on the spot during the Labor Day Job Fair held simultaneously in four locations in the region.

In an interview on Tuesday, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Ilocos regional information officer Justin Marbella said of the total number, 287 are from Vigan, Ilocos Sur; and 315 are from different parts of Pangasinan like Lingayen (83), Sta. Barbara (108), and Urdaneta (124).

Marbella said 318 of the hired on the spot job seekers were female while 284 were males.

Meanwhile, he said some of the applicants who were not hired were referred to other participating agencies and government programs.

He said 46 of the applicants were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and 785 to other participating agencies. Also, 35 were referred to programs on livelihood assistance and 15 to programs on entrepreneurship opportunity.

“There are a total of 26,260 job vacancies while there were some 1,741 registered job seekers,” Marbella said.

The Labor Day job fair in the region was held on May 1 at the Farmers Livelihood Development Center, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur; thePublic Employment Services Office Multipurpose Hall, PESO Bldg., Lingayen, Pangasinan; the Orbos Gym, Poblacion Norte, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan; and the Magic Mall, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.

“I brought many copies of my resume because I knew I was going to be on a job-search spree,” said Angiela Dorado of Candon City, Ilocos Sur, who was one of those hired on the spot.
