ANGONO, Rizal – Manila Water (MW) announced that there will be a water service interruption in several barangays across Angono, Binangonan and Taytay beginning 10 p.m. on Friday, but assured that services will be restored by early morning on Saturday.

In an interview on Friday, Jeric Sevilla, head of corporate communications at MW, said the company’s maintenance crews are poised to work round-the-clock to complete their work on time and with minimum inconvenience to customers.

“We expect the line meter replacements scheduled in Angono, Binagonan and Taytay to be completed as scheduled and for water supply to be restored at 4 a.m. on May 6,” Sevilla told the Philippine News Agency.

To be temporarily waterless are Barangays San Isidro, Kalayaan, Tagpos, Tayuman and San Juan, including some 20 subdivisions and “sitios” (small settlements) within the affected towns of Rizal province.

The water company serves over 413,000 water service connections in Rizal, providing water to an estimated 2.8 million individuals in the province.

Meanwhile, the MW executive seconded the call made by Rizal Governor Casimiro Ynares III for water conservation during the dry season.

“We support the call of Gov. Ynares to practice wise and responsible use of water, especially as we head towards the challenges of the impending El Niño. We encourage businesses and the general public to avoid water wastage and treat water as a precious resource that needs to be protected and conserved,” said Sevilla.

Ynares said in a published article earlier this week that “we worry about the low water levels in our dams as we nervously listen to announcements regarding possible water rationing.”

The governor also expressed concerns over water supposedly wasted in golf courses and car wash businesses in times when supply is low. (PNA)
