MANILA – The hoisting of tropical cyclone wind signal due to Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Chedeng remains unlikely, but it is forecast to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat) in the next three days, the weather bureau said Thursday.

The enhancement would result in gusty conditions in the Visayas, Romblon, Occidental Mindoro, the northern portion of Palawan including Kalayaan, Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands and Camiguin on Friday.

Gusty conditions may also prevail in the Visayas, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Camiguin, and Dinagat Islands on Saturday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Chedeng is also unlikely to directly bring heavy rainfall over any portion of the country in the next three to five days as it is forecast to remain far from the landmass.

Chedeng packs maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph. PAGASA expects Chedeng to upgrade into the typhoon category by tonight or Friday, and reach the peak intensity by Saturday.

It was last tracked 1,090 km east of Central Luzon, moving west northwest at 10 kph, PAGASA said. (PNA)
