SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique - The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique is urging parents to have their kids enlisted even with the closure of the online early registration process.

Evelyn Remo, who is the chief of the DepEd Antique Schools Governance and Operations Division, said in an interview Friday that those who did not meet the June 9 deadline for online early registration may visit the school where they intend to enroll their incoming Kindergarten and Grades 1, 7 and 11 learners to register.

“DepEd schools are still open to accommodate parents and learners for early registration," she said.

School heads and teachers are still there to accommodate parents and learners because classes in public schools will be until July 7, she added.

The online registration from May 10 to June 9 was only intended for the daily reporting of registrants, according to Remo.

"There were several causal factors then that some parents were not able to process the early registration of their children that is why the schools were only able to report 31,100 registered learners," she said.

The Schools Division of Antique targeted to register at least the same number of 34, 810 early registrants last year but they only reached 89.34 percent.

The frequent rains, especially caused by Typhoon Betty that enhanced the southwest monsoon last month, could have hampered parents and learners from going to school, Remo said.

She said there could also be a possibility that the number of incoming learners is lesser this year or that parents will enroll their children this opening of the school year 2023-2024.

The early registration aimed to provide DepEd with information to prepare classrooms, teachers, and other school needs ahead of the school opening. (PNA)
