LAOAG CITY – A magnitude 5.6 earthquake rocked the northern part of Luzon at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Located 10 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri Island in Cagayan province, the earthquake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 53 kilometers, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Intensity IV (moderately strong) was recorded in Burgos and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte and Calayan in Cagayan; Intensity III (weak) in Pagudpud and parts of Laoag City, also in Ilocos Norte, and Aparri, Cagayan; Intensity II (slightly felt) in Batac City, Ilocos Norte, and Gonzaga and Peñablanca in Cagayan; and Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
Residents have been advised to take precautionary measures as aftershocks are expected. No damage was recorded as of posting time. (PNA)
