CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two infrastructure projects in Maria Aurora town, Aurora province that now provide better and faster mobility and protect the residents from flooding.

DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller Tolentino said on Tuesday the newly-completed structures were the concrete paving of the local road network in Barangay Detailen and a flood control structure along Pacugao River in Barangay Cabituculan East.

Tolentino said a total of 1.99 kilometers of road in Barangay Detailen have been improved into concrete with lined canals costing PHP29.4 million.

DPWH Aurora District engineer Roderick Andal said the newly-concreted road in Barangay Detailen now facilitates better mobility in the community, benefiting locals especially those engaged in coconut farming.

“Now, farmers and locals alike are enjoying more convenient and faster travel. Agricultural products, such as coconut, can now be brought to market easily by our farmers,” Andal said in a statement.

On the other hand, Andal said the 232.50-meter flood control structure built in the amount of PHP19.6 million along the Pacucao River segment that runs through Barangay Cabituculan East now serves as crucial protection for residential areas and farmlands against potential inundation from river water overflow.

Andal said they are continuously constructing flood mitigation structures in the various coastal communities in Aurora province to protect residents living along the coastline from flooding and storm surges.

“Aurora is a coastal province and there are flood-prone areas especially those in low-lying villages along its major rivers. Thus, to mitigate the effects of inundation in these flood-prone areas, we have been implementing flood mitigation measures,” he added. (PNA)
