DAVAO CITY – Some PHP24.8 million worth of illegal drugs confiscated and seized in three Mindanao regions were destroyed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday at the Philippine-Japan Active Carbon Plant here.

PDEA-11 (Davao) Director Naravy Duquiatan said the narcotic drugs destroyed consisted of 2.5 kilos of shabu, 20.2 kilos of marijuana and 779.95 grams of cocaine coming from different branches of the regional trial courts in the Regions 11, 12 and 13.

Drug paraphernalia and expired medicines were also burned, Duquiatan said.

“Today is another milestone for the agency and our partners to lead the destruction of dangerous drugs, confiscated drugs paraphernalia, and expired medicines. The objective of this destruction is to erase the doubts from the minds of the public that there is a recycling of dangerous drugs,” she added.

The destruction complies with the guidelines set by the custody and disposition of seized dangerous drugs required under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

“These pieces of evidence were confiscated during the countless anti-illegal drugs operation conducted by our drug law enforcers. These came from the different branches of the regional trial courts in Regions 11, 12 (Soccsksargen), and 13 (Caraga),” Duquiatan explained.

Davao City (1st District) Rep. Paolo Duterte, represented by the lawmaker's son, Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, underscored the importance of maintaining the city's position against illegal drugs.

“The message is clear. If you want to push and use drugs, Davao City is not a place for you to live. Do not do it here if you love your life,” the younger Duterte said, even as he commended the PDEA and other law enforcement agencies for the accomplishment. (PNA)
