ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Health in the Zamboanga Peninsula (DOH-9) broke ground Friday for the construction of the PHP11.5 million super health center in Barangay Manicahan in this city.

Dr. Dennis Antonio Dacayanan, a DOH-9 medical officer, said the project aims to achieve full universal healthcare coverage without financial hardship for everyone.

“Through the super health center, we can reach the communities and barangays that need help," Dacayanan said, adding that the center can help decongest hospitals as basic services will now be available at the facility.

Expected to be completed by January next year, the center will serve as a primary care facility with a pharmacy, x-ray, dental services, birthing facility, and laboratory.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, city health officer, said the super health center in Manicahan will be the third for this city. The other two, the construction of which are ongoing, are located in Barangays Sangali and Talon-Talon.

“People need not travel far just to avail of medical services,” she said. (PNA)
