LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) is monitoring possible gun-for-hire or private armed groups in the province to ensure a peaceful and orderly Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in the province.

In an interview on Monday, PPPO director Col. Jeff Fanged said they have a list of individuals suspected to be involved in gun-for-hire or private armed groups.

“Kapag ikaw ay involved sa gun-for-hire group, tatawagin ka ng local chief of police dyan sa bayan ninyo. Totoo man o hindi na may grupo ka, you should stop (If you are suspected to be involved in a gun-for-hire group, you will be called by the local chief of police in your town (or city). Whether it is true that you have a group or not, illegal activity should be stopped),” he said.

He said the individuals listed will be summoned to give them a stern warning that the police are monitoring their actions.

“Actually documented lahat yan, hanggang sa Camp Crame nakarating na yan. Sabi ko nga mas maganda na nag-usap tayo at bago ang election, alam mo na nakabantay kami sa yo. In that way, seguro kung may common sense siya, maiisip niya na hindi pala pwedeng ma-involve sa gun for hire dahil kilala pala ako (Actually, everything is documented, it has already reached Camp Crame. As I was saying, it is better that we have dialogues prior to the election, so that you know that we are watching you. In that way, maybe if the person has common sense, he will not let himself be involved in any gun-for-hire group),” he said.

Fanged said he challenged the local chiefs of police to make the upcoming election a very peaceful one.

“As early as now, we already have the list. Extreme cases need extreme measures. We need to be very firm in our campaign as we want Pangasinan to be very peaceful,” he added.

The election gun ban for the Oct. 30 Barangay and SK Elections will be from Aug. 28 to Nov. 29 this year.  (PNA)
