CEBU CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas is intensifying health promotion campaigns in the region to ensure health literacy will reach the household level.

DOH-7 hosted on Thursday the Health Promotion Summit, gathering hundreds of healthcare professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders from various sectors committed to promoting health and well-being.

“This summit serves as a platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and fostering collaborations to advance health promotion initiatives and strategies in Central Visayas with this year’s theme, Strengthening Health System through Unifying Health Promotion,” DOH-7 regional director Jaime Bernadas said in his remark during the summit.

He said Republic Act 11223, or the Universal Health Care Act, has set comprehensive and progressive reforms to ensure that every Filipino is healthy by providing access to affordable, quality, and readily available health services that are suitable to the needs of the people.

Dr. Rosalind Vianzon, chief of DOH’s Healthy Workplace and Environment Division, underscored the seven priority areas of the DOH Health Promotion Strategic Framework which include mental health, maternal health care, sexual and reproductive health, and violence and injury prevention against women and children.

Part of the campaign, she said, is to make clear the definition of the workplace that includes healthcare facilities where workers’ health, safety, and well-being are also ensured.

“Hospitals and healthcare facilities are workplaces by itself … When we say health, in hospitals, all qualities and standards should be there to ensure safety and wellness of everybody, including the healthcare workers,” Vianzon said.

The participants of the summit were also exposed to strategies in “infodemic management” and ways of delivering impactful health communication through the lecture of World Health Organization-Philippines, communications officer, Rocel Ann Junio Balbutin. (PNA)
