CEBU CITY – The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday advised local government units (LGUs) in Central Visayas to start conserving rainwater in preparation for the possible impact of El Niño.

Alfredo Quiblat Jr., head weather specialist of PAGASA-Mactan observatory center, said Central Visayas will start to feel the impact of the weather condition during the last three months of the year, characterized by lesser rainfall to below normal.

“There is a 50 to 56 percent chance of a stronger El Niño that would happen from December to February of next year,” Quiblat said during the Open Line forum here.

He said PAGASA  is working with LGUs and other government agencies to ensure that conservation measures and water use plans are implemented.

Meanwhile, he warned Cebuanos that they could expect warmer temperatures of at least 33 degrees Celsius once the dry season starts in October. (PNA)
