CEBU CITY – At least 75 non-organic coordinators and facilitators of anti-poverty programs run by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Central Visayas are now covered by the Social Security System (SSS).

Lilia Estillore, regional director of DOLE-7, said that the 75 coordinators of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) project, livelihood and development specialists, project-based individuals, and community facilitators will soon enjoy the benefits of the government’s social security program.

“It is my mission to provide all (non-organic workers), among others with protection against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death, and other contingencies that the SSS offers,” Estillore said.

Giving SSS coverage, Estillore said, will afford the non-organic personnel a sense of security that whatever happens to them, they can rely on SSS.

The regional office has assigned a liaison officer who will help facilitate the payment of voluntary contributions of the personnel.

In return, the SSS has also assigned an account officer to manage the DOLE-7 account and assist in the implementation.

On June 26, the contractual personnel were appraised about the SSS programs through a seminar conducted in the DOLE-7 regional office here.

Estillore said she signed a memorandum of agreement with SSS on Wednesday to implement the effort to provide coverage for their non-organic personnel who are helping the government implement anti-poverty programs, such as the TUPAD and livelihood projects.

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed. (PNA)
