PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan –The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority’s (PFDA) board of directors has given the green light to the proposed establishment of an integrated fish port in this city.

Mayor Lucilo Bayron on Monday said the board approved the proposal after a technical working group presented the potential benefits of having a trading hub for marine goods within the province’s capital.

He noted that recently, the city government invited PFDA representatives to discuss complete designs for a proposed one-stop-shop complex on the east shore of Barangay Buenavista.

Bayron said the envisioned facility “intends to streamline numerous fishing sector operations and serve as a focal center for fishermen, processors, and other stakeholders.”

The integrated fish port was first proposed by Bayron's administration in 2022 as a critical component of Puerto Princesa's long-term development goal.

He said that its inclusion indicates the “local government's commitment to encouraging sustainable growth and meeting the special needs of its fishing industry.”

Bayron earlier said the proposed fish port has already piqued the interest of the private sector, particularly the Frabelle Group of Companies.

The integrated fish port is seen to grow the city’s economy by setting the stage for the processing of ocean harvest into high-value processed goods. (PNA)
