MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – A total of 145 families in La Union and Pangasinan provinces transferred to evacuation centers amid floods and damaged houses due to Typhoon Egay as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
In La Union, 99 affected families, or 246 individuals, were from 16 barangays in Luna, Bangar, Sto. Tomas towns and San Fernando City, La Union Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Officer Aureliano Rulloda III said in a report.
“A total of 77 barangays in Burgos, Agoo, Aringay, Santol, Rosario towns, and San Fernando City experienced power interruption but power was already restored,” Rulloda added.
He said two houses were partially damaged.
The La Union DRRMO also mobilized some of its personnel for a clearing operation in Barangay Bidet, San Fernando City.
It also deployed a search and rescue team to help stranded persons in Barangay Bimmotobot in Naguilian town.
Based on the initial report, there were no recorded casualties or injured persons due to the typhoon.
The initial cost of damage to agriculture in the province amounted to PHP212,428.
In a separate report, Pangasinan PDRRMO officer Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro, said the 46 families or 159 individuals are inside and outside evacuation centers in the province as some chose to be with their relatives.
“There are damaged houses in Calasiao town but the cost will be sent after the assessment of their engineering office,” he said.
He added that Bani town reported a damaged hanging bridge in Barangay Quinaoayanan.
All roads in the province are passable except for a barangay road in Agno town.
Pangasinan experienced 101.6 milliliter rainfall from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday.
A red alert status has been hoisted over La Union, Pangasinan, and the rest of the Ilocos Region provinces since July 24.
Classes at all levels in public and private schools and work in government institutions, except those in charge of disaster management, were suspended in both provinces.
La Union and the northern and western portions of Pangasinan are under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 2, while the rest of the local governments in Pangasinan are under signal no. 1.
Typhoon Egay is located over the coastal waters of Aparri, Cagayan with wind up to 175 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gustiness at 240 km/h and is moving southwestward at 15 (km/h).
The local government units provide family food packs to the evacuees while the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Ilocos regional office assured sufficient food and non-food items relief assistance ready to be augmented to the localities.
DSWD reported that some 86,520 family food packs and 29,290 non-food items are on standby in its warehouses in the entire region. (PNA)
