LEGAZPI CITY – A total of 85 families or 324 individuals in two Bicol provinces are now taking shelter in different evacuation centers amid the floods caused by Typhoon Egay, the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol region (OCD-5) said on Wednesday.
In an interview, Gremil Alexis Naz, OCD-5 spokesperson, said the affected families are from Catanduanes and Camarines Sur.
"In Catanduanes, (affected) are the towns of Baras, Baro, Caramoran, Pandan and Virac, and Calabanga in Camarines Sur. A total of 10 related incidents were reported: six are flooding incidents and four are rain-induced landslide incidents," he said.
Naz said roll on, roll off (RoRo) trips in the major ports of Bicol have resumed their trips but small boats (250 tonnages and below) are still not allowed to travel.
"Travel of RoRo trips still depends on the shipping company if their vessels will resume their trips or maintain on standby status due to strong waves and rain," he said.
Meanwhile, a total of PHP1.9 million worth of assistance was provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development- in Bicol (DSWD-5) to the affected population and stranded individuals.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Typhoon Egay made landfall twice in Aparri, Cagayan on Wednesday morning, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gusts of up to 240 kph. (PNA)
