MANILA - A total of 168 families affected by flooding from four barangays of Pigcawayan, Cotabato on Thursday received relief boxes from the Office of the Vice President (OVP), through its Disaster Operations Center (DOC) and the Davao Satellite Office (DSO).

The flood-stricken families were thankful to Vice President Sara Duterte after receiving the relief boxes containing sleeping mats, blankets, mosquito nets, slippers, hygiene kits and collapsible water containers.

In a video interview by News Insight in its Facebook page, Jhanelle Lambo of the OVP-DOC said the beneficiaries included 143 families from Barangay Bulucaon, five in Barangay Buluan, three in Poblacion 1, and 17 in Poblacion 2.

She assured that the OVP-DOC is in constant coordination with Municipal Disaster, Risk Reduction, and Management Offices (MDRRMOs) who alerts them whenever there are casualties or disaster-affected residents within their jurisdictions.

She said the OVP-DOC then forwards the alert to the OVP central office for approval to conduct a relief operation in the affected area.

"Isa lang jud ang tumong ana ni VP Sara para sa atoang tanan. Magkaisa jud ta tanan. Kung naa may sakuna, atoa jud nang tabangan kay parehas sa slogan ni VP Sara nga 'Para sa Diyos, para sa bayan, at para sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino' (VP Sara has only one aim for us all. That is for us to all unite. During disasters, we will really help them in accordance with her slogan 'For God, for the country, and for every Filipino family')," Lambo said.

Since July 24, continuous heavy rains brought about by Typhoon Egay and the southwest monsoon caused flooding in Pigcawayan, forcing residents to evacuate.

The OVP-DOC was joined by Pigcawayan Acting Municipal Mayor Niel Jake Casi and the Pigcawayan Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.

Last week, the OVP also sent relief goods and medicines to flood-affected families of Pagalungan town, Maguindanao del Sur; and Kabacan, Cotabato. (PNA)
