MANILA – The Philippines for Jesus Movement (PJM) on Wednesday said the filing of charges over the controversial video of drag performer Pura Luka Vega's performance of the liturgical song "Ama Namin" (The Lord's Prayer) aims to defend the faith in God.

"Our goal in doing this is to show and encourage all people, who love God, to stand up and defend their faith," PJM president Bishop Leo Alconga said in an interview over Church-run Radio Veritas.

The PJM official also questioned Vega’s remarks citing freedom of expression to defend the act.

“Our freedom of expression, whatever it is, is not a license for us to use it to damage, insult, and destroy people, especially their faith in God," Alconga said.

On Monday, the PJM filed a complaint before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office against Vega for violating Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code for committing acts that "offend any race or religion," as well as Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 as the alleged crime was committed "with the use of information and communications technology".

Last month, the drag performer's act where he dressed up as Jesus Christ went viral on social media.

The video also showed that the performer was jamming with a crowd to the tune of the Catholic liturgical song. (PNA)
