MANILA – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Wednesday said the three newly appointed directors will help pursue access and equity to quality higher education in the country.

In a statement, CHED Chairperson J. Prospero de Vera III assured that these officials appointed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. are equipped to carry out the commission's mandate.

“I congratulate and welcome our three new CHED officials. They all come with impressive academic credentials and expertise that will help CHED implement its mandates and priorities under the Marcos administration," he said.

Among the appointees for Director IV positions include former president of Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) Raul Muyong, CHED Local Graduate Scholarship program director-in-charge Corinna Frances Cabanilla, and Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) education faculty Dr. Christine Ferrer.

The CHED said Muyong served as a two-term president of ISAT U.

"[He] is responsible for the rapid improvement of ISAT U particularly in science and technology programs, including an impressive performance in the licensure examination in Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering," the CHED statement read.

The CHED cited the significant service contribution of Muyong in terms of faculty promotion and reclassification in the Western Visayas region.

"His participation in the reformulation and revision of the promotion/reclassification system in SUCs paved the way for the signing of the DBM (Department of Budget and Management)-CHED Joint Circular No. 03, series of 2022 that revised and updated the two-decade-long reclassification system," it added.

Meanwhile, the CHED said Cabanilla helped in providing opportunities for faculty members to avail of scholarships for masters and doctoral programs.

The CHED said she served as a representative both to the Philippine-American Educational Foundation and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) National Technical and Selection Committee on Science and Technology with a focus on scholarship opportunities.

Ferrer, who acted as the TAU director for External Linkages and International Affairs, helped in the university's global ranking attainment for three years.

"TAU embarked on an aggressive internationalization program that resulted in TAU to be the first public university to be included in the Times Impact Ranking in 2021 and the best performing Philippine HEI (higher education institution) in student mobility at the WURI for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023," the CHED said.

Earlier, the CHED vowed to continue improving the quality of higher education in the country by boosting its internationalization efforts.

In particular, global rankings are used as metrics to measure and assess the year-by-year trend of the HEI's performance.

As of May 1, 52 HEIs in the country are included in three various global rankings. (PNA)
