29 dead, 805K families affected due to 'habagat,’ 2 typhoons

MANILA – The number of reported deaths caused by the effects of the southwest monsoon and Typhoons Egay and Falcon has now climbed to 29, with the number of affected families reaching 805,621.

In its update Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said two deaths have been confirmed -- one each in Calabarzon and Western Visayas.

The remaining 27 are still undergoing validation -- 14 in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), eight in the Ilocos Region, three in Calabarzon and one each in Western Visayas and Davao Region.

Meanwhile, persons reported injured were placed at 165, with 152 confirmed and 13 still undergoing validation. The number of reported missing and still undergoing confirmation was placed at 11.

Of the 805,621 affected families which is equivalent to 3,028,040 individuals residing in 4,826 barangays in 13 regions, around 15,473 families or 57,226 persons are being sheltered in 648 evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, another 57,000 families or 229,831 are being aided outside.

The Office of Civil Defense earlier said that the affected families are a combination of those displaced and those not needing transfer or removal from their residence.

Some 56,694 houses were reported damaged in 13 regions. (PNA)
