MANILA – The Dominican Republic completed a 3-0 sweep of Group A play in the FIBA World Cup after beating Angola, 75-67, on Tuesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The result, however, favored Gilas Pilipinas as the co-host team momentarily kept its hopes of joining the Dominican Republic in the Round of 16 with only a blowout win against Italy later Tuesday.

The Dominican Republic needed to survive Karl-Anthony Towns' foul trouble and came alive in the fourth quarter, outscoring Angola, 26-17, to steal the win.

Andres Feliz led the Dominican Republic with 17 points, going 5-for-5 on deuces, six rebounds, and two assists, while Victor Liz added 13 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and three steals.

Silvio De Sousa led Angola, which is in trouble of not making the Top 16 after dropping to 1-2, with 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one block, and two steals. (PNA)
