MANILA – Police Regional Office (PRO) 4-B (Mimaropa) chief, Brig. Gen. Joel Doria, on Wednesday directed all personnel to intensify the awareness campaign on the rice price ceiling mandated under Executive Order (EO) 39.

In a statement, Doria said this complies with the PNP's role to provide necessary support and assistance to the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Agriculture in enforcing the order.

Doria emphasized the full support and dedication of the Mimaropa police in adhering to the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

"Our aim is to ensure a consistent supply of affordable rice in Mimaropa," he added.

Under the EO, which took effect Tuesday, the price ceiling for regular milled rice and well-milled rice is at PHP41 per kg. and PHP45 per kg., respectively.

Violators will face penalties, as stated in Sections 15 and 16 of Republic Act 7581 or the Price Act.

The penalties include imprisonment of up to 10 years and substantial fines ranging from PHP5,000 to PHP1 million.

Doria further encouraged the public to support and cooperate with the implementation of this order.

"We urge the public's cooperation and support in fostering a transparent and inclusive rice market that benefits all stakeholders in the region," he added. (PNA)
