TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PROCor) destroyed at least PHP9.2 million worth of fully grown marijuana plants in joint operations Tuesday in Kalinga and Mt. Province.

In a report on Wednesday, the PROCor said a total of 36,055 marijuana plants amounting to PHP9,298,760 were uprooted and burned.

The operations were launched in various sites consisting of 6.8 hectares of plantations in Sagada, Mountain Province, and the areas of Butbut and Loccong in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

Col. Carolina Lacuata, chief PROCor information officer, said the operations form part of the sustained anti-drugs campaign of the government to rid the mountains of the Cordillera with the illegal marijuana plants.

“This is a continuing operation of going back to previous sites where eradication operations were conducted to assure that those which grow marijuana after a previous operation will not be harvested and sold to the urban areas,” she said. (PNA)
