LAOAG CITY – The new management of the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) on Monday said consumers can expect lower power rates this October.

"We are pleased to announce a substantial reduction in the residential electricity tariff for the month of October 2023. The new rate now stands at PHP10.9955 per kilowatt hour, signifying a noteworthy PHP0.5562 per kilowatt hour lower in comparison to the previous billing rate,” INEC acting general manager Cipriano E. Martinez III said in a media interview.

In September, the residential power rate decreased by PHP3.1851 per kWh or was down to PHP11.5517 per kilowatt hour (kWh), inclusive of value-added tax, from PHP14.7368/kWh last August.

Martinez traced the continued decrease in electricity rates to the collective efforts of the electric cooperative and the local government to ensure affordable electricity here.

Meanwhile, INEC has appealed to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to speed up the upgrading works in Ilocos Norte to address recurring power interruptions, affecting both the first and second districts of the province.

Earlier, NGCP said its annual preventive maintenance activities in the province for this year have been completed but they are set to implement more corrective and improvement works on their lines.

INEC also appealed to the NGCP to limit power interruptions during corrective maintenance to not more than six hours and to inform the electric cooperative at least a month before the maintenance works for the latter to have enough time to inform its member-consumers to make necessary adjustments.
