MANILA – The low pressure area (LPA) that developed early Thursday and located 135 km. west of Coron, Palawan will cause rains over parts of the country, the weather bureau said.

This will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mimaropa, Quezon, Northern and Eastern Samar, forecaster Patrick del Mundo said in the 5 a.m. weather bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Moderate to heavy rains in those areas may result in flash floods or landslides.

Del Mundo said the new LPA and the one last tracked 860 km. east of Eastern Visayas both have a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

The new LPA might exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility this weekend, he added.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail across the archipelago. (PNA)
