Police trainee feted for saving drowning girl in Rizal

MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. on Thursday lauded a police trainee assigned at the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) for rescuing a drowning girl in a river in Taytay, Rizal on Oct. 6.

"It is with great pride that the PNP has a dedicated public servant like PT (police trainee) David, who is willing to sacrifice for the safety and protection of our fellow countrymen. He is truly worthy of praise and serves as an epitome of selflessness and unwavering commitment to duty," Acorda said in a statement.

The PNP chief said David's unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of his fellow citizens is an example of the values being upheld by the police force.

“We salute PT August David for his exceptional bravery and boldness in the face of danger. His actions represent the very essence of selfless service and sacrifice, qualities that are integral to the mission of the PNP,” Acorda said.

He added the PNP thanked David for embodying the highest ideals of the police force and for his remarkable and selfless act of heroism and his actions reflect the values and dedication that the PNP strives to instill in all its members.

Reports said David immediately got off the passenger jeepney that crossed a bridge in the area when he saw the girl fall into the river past noon on Oct. 6.

In a viral video, he was seen jumping into the river to save the victim. (PNA)
