MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided cash assistance to the family of a criminology student who recently died from hazing.

DSWD- Calabarzon handed over Thursday night PHP10,000 cash aid to the family of the 25-year-old Ahldryn Bravante, who died in the hospital due to injuries caused allegedly during initiation rites.

Aside from the cash, the DSWD has also issued a PHP40,000 worth in guarantee letter to the funeral service provider to cover the burial expenses.

DSWD-Calabarzon regional director Dr. Barry Chua said the department also offered education assistance to the victim’s 6-year-old daughter.

Digna Esguerra-Cabrera, Ahldryn’s grandmother, thanked the DSWD for providing necessary support to the family left by the victim.

“Malaking tulong po sa kanila yun sa gastusin. Hindi naman nila kakayanin yung gagastusin...talagang walang pagkukuhanan (That is a big help for them with the expenses. They would not be able to afford the costs...there’s really no other source.),” Cabrera said.

Aldhryn, a student of the Philippine College of Criminology (PCCr) and resident of Imus, Cavite, was allegedly subjected to hazing by suspected members of Tau Gamma Phi in an abandoned building in Quezon City.

The Quezon City Police District has already filed charges against members of the fraternity group suspected involved in the hazing. (PNA)
