BUTUAN CITY – The Department of the Interior and Local Government in the Caraga Region (DILG-13) said at least 19 local government units (LGUs) in the area will receive national awards for their well-performing anti-illegal drug councils.

In a statement Friday, DILG-13 said the 19 Caraga LGUs are among the 246 municipalities, cities, and provinces in the country which will be conferred with the 2023 National Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Awards.

It said the anti-drug councils of these LGUs managed to comply with the prescribed functionality indicators and implemented anti-illegal drug interventions in their localities.

“The 19 LGUs were also able to make initiatives in support of the reduction of drug abuse in their areas of jurisdiction,” the agency said.

Most of the LGU awardees in the region are from Surigao del Norte with seven municipalities: Bacuag, Claver, Mainit, Malimono, San Francisco, Sison, and Tubod; and the five Agusan del Sur towns of Loreto, Rosario, Talacogon, Trento, and Veruela.

Four towns in Surigao del Sur will also receive the award: Cagwait, Hinatuan, Madrid, and Tandag City; two in Dinagat, which include Cagdianao and Loreto; and the municipality of Jabonga in Agusan del Norte.

DILG-13 said the awarding ceremony will be on Nov. 22 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Ortigas, Quezon City. (PNA)
