ROME – Pope Francis on Sunday thanked God for the truce in the war between Hamas and Israel and for the release of some of the hostages taken by Hamas in the Oct. 7 attacks in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.

"Today, we thank God that there is finally a truce between Israel and Palestine and some hostages have been released," the Pope said in his Angelus address, which was read on his behalf by Mgr. Paolo Braida as Pope Francis is unwell.

"Let us pray that all of them will be released as soon as possible. Let us think of their families. May more humanitarian aid enter Gaza, and may we insist on dialogue, it is the only way to have peace. Those who do not want dialogue do not want peace," the Pope said in his message. (ANSA)
