BUTUAN CITY – Police authorities nabbed two women who were practicing illegal dentistry on Sunday afternoon in Barangay Villa Kanangga here.

Maj. Jennifer Omiter, the Police Regional Office-13 information office chief, said the operation was in response to a report by concerned citizens and the Philippine Dental Association – Agusan del Norte Chapter about the ongoing illegal practices of the suspects.

“We immediately sent a poseur-client who made contacts with the two suspects through their Facebook account and came up for a transaction to install orthodontic or commonly called braces,” Omiter said in a phone interview on Tuesday.

Omiter identified the two suspects only as “Zel”, 22, and “Ana”, 29, who yielded assorted dental instruments worth PHP100,000 and other dental paraphernalia.

The suspects will be charged with the violation of Republic Act No. 9484 or the Philippine Dental Act of 2007.

PRO-13 director, Brig. Gen. Kirby John Kraft, said they will pursue a deeper investigation on the two suspects.

“We need to trace the other possible associates of these suspects, including the suppliers of the dental instruments and paraphernalia who might be involved in this same modus,” he said. (PNA)
