CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A total of 187 loose firearms were confiscated while 70 people were arrested during the implementation of gun ban in the province of Nueva Ecija from Aug. 28 to Nov. 28 this year.

In his report on Wednesday, Col. Richard Caballero, director of the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (NEPPO), said the firearms of different calibers were seized in various police operations such as Commission on Elections (Comelec) and anti-criminality checkpoints, anti-illegal drugs operations, Oplan Sita, police responses, patrolling, anti-gambling operations, service of search warrants and manhunt operations.

He said 26 different explosives such as hand grenades and 11 bladed/pointed weapons were also seized during the three-month gun ban.

Caballero also said the 70 individuals arrested were charged with violation of the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines.

On the other hand, there were three suspects who died in lawful police operations.

Caballero further said 127 firearms of different calibers were recovered through the Balik-Baril program of the Philippine National Police.

He said the enforcement of gun ban in Nueva Ecija played a crucial role in ensuring the most peaceful election ever held in the province.

The Comelec imposed a gun ban from Aug. 28 to Nov. 29 in connection with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections last Oct. 30.

“As we celebrate this achievement, we extend our gratitude to the community and assure them of our unwavering commitment to providing tireless service in the upcoming elections,” Caballero said. (PNA)
