ILOILO CITY – Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is recovering after an angioplasty procedure over the weekend at The Medical City Iloilo, his daughter Raisa Treñas-Chu said Monday.

Chu said the mayor underwent a routine medical checkup on Dec. 2 after being diagnosed with shingles on Nov. 28.

During his coronary angiogram, the doctor found a blocked artery, prompting his wife, Rosalie, to have the mayor undergo the procedure.

“He is okay and is now in the regular room asking when to return to work,” she said.

Chu said Treñas had not experienced any symptoms of a heart problem before the procedure and before he got infected.

She added it is a family’s routine to undergo checkups before Christmas.

He is expected to be discharged from the hospital this week and planned to return to work in one or two weeks.

“There are no complications. He is in a regular room, meaning his recovery is okay,” Chu said. (PNA)
