CEBU CITY – Eleven local government units across Central Visayas will receive the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for their best practices in governing their respective localities.

Leocadio Trovela, regional director of DILG-7, said nine LGUs in Cebu and one each in Bohol and Siquijor will receive the recognition for showing their continual progress in improving their performance and upholding the practice of transparency and accountability.

“I commend the 11 LGUs in Central Visayas for the award,” Trovela said.

On their website, the DILG announced that it will be awarding the SGLG to Cebu municipalities of Alegria, Borbon, Daanbantayan, Madridejos, Samboan, San Remigio, Sogod, and Tudela as well as Bogo City.

The municipalities of Loboc in Bohol and Larena in Siquijor will also get the same award.

These LGUs will be given recognition on Dec. 13 and 14 in an awarding ceremony in Manila.

SGLG is the highest distinction given to LGUs that exemplify transparency and accountability, especially in utilizing public funds.

To get the award, LGUs must pass 10 assessment areas such as financial administration and sustainability; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business-friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace and order; environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture and arts, and youth development.
