NAAWAN, Misamis Oriental – The Northern Mindanao police on Monday honored one of its officers slain in action in Lanao del Norte province.
In a statement, the Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10) said Staff Sergeant Khalid Tanog, 38, died while his team was responding to a report about sightings of armed groups in Barangay Tenazas on Dec. 3, 2023.
"We salute your heroism, and you are a true hero to be remembered always," PRO-10 said of Tanog, as a Cagayan de Oro resident but was detailed at Lala Municipal Police Station.
PRO-10 said the armed group opened fire when Tanog and his colleagues arrived at the scene, hitting Tanog several times and causing his death.
In a pursuit operation, the police arrested Reynante Abrilla, a resident of neighboring town Kapatagan, who charged with murder on Monday.
