MANILA – The Korean Embassy in Manila on Tuesday extended its condolences to the Philippines following Sunday's deadly bombing at the Mindanao State University gym in Marawi City that killed four and wounded 50 others.
At a reception in his residence in Makati, South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Sang-hwa said Seoul is “deeply concerned” over the blast.
“As we said in our Embassy statement yesterday, we remain deeply concerned. We believe that violence, especially against innocent civilians, can never be tolerated under any circumstances,” he said.
“As the Philippines mourns the tragic loss of lives, we stand in solidarity with the government and people of the Philippines and extend our deepest condolences to the victims and their families,” he added.
Several other nations such as Japan, France, Ireland, China, Israel, the United States, and the European Union condemned the attack.
On Dec. 4, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said attacks against innocent citizens are “unacceptable for any reason, and Japan firmly condemns terrorism in all its forms”.
“Japan will continue to support the peace process in Mindanao under the conviction that stability in Mindanao is linked to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific,” Japanese MOFA Press Secretary Maki Kobayashi said. (PNA)
