MANILA – Nine overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and five children who availed of the voluntary repatriation program offered by the Philippine government arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Thursday.
The latest arrival is the 20th batch of OFWs from Lebanon escaping the heightened tension between Israel and the militant group Hezbollah.
A total of 111 OFWs from Lebanon have returned to the country since the arrival of the first batch on Oct. 28.
Department of Migrant Workers Assistant Secretaries Venecio Legaspi and Francis Ron de Guzman welcomed the OFWs.
The two assured them of assistance and other forms of support from the department.
Upon arrival, each OFW received PHP125,000, training and capacity enhancement vouchers from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, as well as "pasalubong" goodies.
The Department of Health also extended medical assistance to the returnees. (PNA)
