MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Tuesday reported that it surpassed its revenue target for January with a surplus of PHP1.5 billion.

Citing its preliminary data, the BOC said it has collected PHP73.329 billion in revenues for the first month of 2024 -- higher by 2.16 percent than its target collection of PHP71.779 billion.

Last month's figure also exceeded the PHP70.6 billion total revenue collection in January 2023.

In a statement, Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio attributed the increase to the bureau’s improved system of determining the customs value of imported goods, strengthened border protection, and concrete trade facilitation efforts.

“The BOC is geared up for intensified efforts in 2024. We are committed to working twice as .hard to ensure that we not only meet but exceed our year-end revenue target,” he said

He also commended the collection districts for their noteworthy contribution to the overall collection performance of the agency.

Rubio noted that this development sets a positive precedent for the year ahead, in compliance with the commitment to excellence and fiscal responsibility under the Bagong Pilipinas campaign of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (PNA)
