MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday released a form for those who would like to withdraw their signatures from the sheets earlier submitted by proponents of the constitutional amendment through a People's Initiative (PI).
In a statement, the poll body said it has approved a memorandum providing for the measure in response to the request of Senator Ronald dela Rosa during a recent hearing of the Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and People's Participation.
“For purposes of recording such manifestations, the Commission hereby releases the Withdrawal Form of Signature in Signature Sheets/Petition for People's Initiative (Form para sa Pagbawi ng Lagda sa Signature Sheets/Petisyon para sa People's Initiative),” it added.
The form is available in the Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs) nationwide and accomplished forms can be submitted to the same office.
“Comelec’s acceptance of withdrawal forms is for recording purposes only and shall not be construed as formal action by the Commission on the signature sheets/petition for People's Initiative,” it said.
Late last month, the poll body, in Resolution 10650, suspended all processes regarding the PI.
It noted that the acceptance of signatures has been indefinitely suspended as they would like to revisit the implementing rules and regulations regarding such proposal.
Earlier, the poll body reported that a municipality in Antique has withdrawn the signature sheets it submitted before the local poll body office.
The document, which consists of 387 pages containing 3,757 signatures, was submitted on Jan. 23. (PNA)
