CEBU CITY – One of the two skywalks along Osmeña Boulevard was demolished Friday to pave the way for the construction of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project.

Although the beams of the main structure comprising two separate concrete footbridges and other parts were dismantled, they will be reconstructed at the South Road Properties (SRP), said Councilor Gerry Guardo.

“The road is now temporarily closed for the works,” he said.

Guardo and engineers from the Hunan Road and Bridges Construction supervised the demolition and reconstruction at SRP.

Traffic for vehicles along the Fuente Osmeña up to Arlington Pond Street was closed while vehicles from B. Rodriguez to Colon Street were directed to pass through Ramos St.

Engineer Jomar Doque, the focal person for the BRT Phase 1 project, said the demolition of two skywalks will take 18 days.

He vowed to complete the clearing of the first skywalk by Feb. 18.

The second skywalk near the Cebu Normal University will also be dismantled but the main structure will be re-used at the SRP area. (PNA)
