MANILA – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) expressed readiness to assist an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Jeddah after her husband stabbed and killed their 9-year-old son and wounded a 14-year-old daughter.

OWWA administrator Arnell Ignacio said in an interview Thursday with the Philippine News Agency, that they are working on bringing the OFW back to her hometown in Maguindanao del Norte so she could see her two children.

Ignacio said the office initially gave financial assistance to the family and they are monitoring the development of the case of the OFW’s husband.

"Nakabantay din po tayo. Nagbigay tayo ng PHP25,000 din financial assistance (We are monitoring [the case]). We have extended PHP25,000 financial assistance). We are also working on the flight of their OFW mother to come home," Ignacio said.

In a separate statement, OWWA said its Regional Office in Maguindanao del Norte visited the family and the surviving daughter of the OFW who is now recuperating in the hospital.

“Agad ring nagbigay ng paunang tulong ang OWWA sa mga kaanak ng mga biktima. Tinitiyak rin ng OWWA na tuloy-tuloy ang tulong na ibibigay ng ahensya sa pamilya ng kababayan nating OFW gitna ng malungkot na pangyayaring ito (OWWA immediately provided initial assistance to the relatives of the victims. OWWA also assures that the agency will continue to provide assistance to the family of our fellow OFW in the midst of this sad event),” the OWWA statement said.

“Handa rin ang ating tanggapan sa Jeddah na tulungan ang ating kababayan sa oras na naisin nitong umuwi ng Pilipinas sa lalong madaling panahon (Our office in Jeddah is also ready to help our compatriots if she wants to return home to the Philippines as soon as possible),” it added.

Reports said the victims’ father went on a rampage at midnight Sunday and stabbed his son and daughter inside their home in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.

The police said the suspect confessed to having stabbed his children while he was drunk.

The suspect is now in the custody of the police while facing charges of parricide and frustrated parricide. (PNA)
