MANILA – The Archdiocese of Caceres has appointed a diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Daet in Camarines Norte province, nearly two weeks after it was declared “sede vacante”.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news website on Thursday reported that Archbishop Rex Andrew Alarcon appointed 52-year-old Fr. Ronald Anthony Timoner as the diocese's caretaker.

The archbishop left the Daet diocese on May 2 as he assumed his new duty as Caceres archbishop.

According to Alarcon, the appointment was made pursuant to Canon 421, paragraph 2 of the Code of Canon Law.

Timoner already served as Daet’s administrator from April 2017, when Bishop Gilbert Garcera was installed as Lipa archbishop, until March 2019 when Alarcon took over the diocese.

As administrator, he will oversee the affairs of the diocese until a new bishop is appointed.

Prior to his appointment, the Catholic priest has been serving as the diocese’s vicar general. (PNA)
