MANILA – The heat index in Guiuan, Eastern Samar reached 50 degrees Celsius on Sunday, following 51°C the day before.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast at the start of the day was only 41°C and 42°C on Monday.
The reading from Roxas City, Capiz was 48°C.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila was between 42°C and 44°C, with thunderstorms reported in some areas in the afternoon.
Muñoz, Nueva Ecija experienced the highest actual temperature at 37.3°C while Pasay City was at 36.3°C.
The highest heat index in the country so far this year was 53°C in Iba, Zambales on April 28.
Clark, Pampanga and Dagupan, Pangasinan also recorded 50°C on May 6 and May 14, respectively. (PNA)
