MANILA – About 38 areas across the country are forecast to experience danger danger-level heat index, the weather bureau said Monday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said heat index, or what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air, could peak at 46°C in Sangley Point, Cavite; Virac (Synop), Catanduanes; Roxas City, Capiz; and Catarman, Northern Samar.
Heat indices of 45 and 44 degrees are expected in Iba, Zambales; Legazpi City, Albay; Guiuan, Eastern Samar; Casiguran, Aurora; Cubi Point, Subic Bay Olongapo City; Ambulong, Tanauan Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Masbate City, Masbate; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Dumangas, Iloilo; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur.
From 42 to 43 degrees heat indices could be experienced in Science Garden Quezon City, Metro Manila; Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; ISU Echague, Isabela; Coron, Palawan; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Cuyo, Palawan; Mambusao, Capiz; Catbalogan, Samar; Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; Aparri, Cagayan; CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Baler (Radar), Aurora; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Aborlan, Palawan; CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur; Panglao International Airport, Bohol; Tacloban City, Leyte; Borongan, Eastern Samar; Davao City, Davao Del Sur; and Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte.
Under danger level or 41°C to 51°C heat indices, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely.
Prolonged exposure to the sun could also cause heat stroke.
Meanwhile, PAGASA on Monday said the shear line affecting extreme Northern Luzon will cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes.
Moderate to heavy rains in the area could result in flash floods or landslides.
The rest of the country will continue to experience fair weather with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail across the archipelago, PAGASA said. (PNA)
