CEBU CITY – The Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) on Monday announced the massive pipeline expansion project to bolster water connections that will benefit 5,000 households in the upland barangays.

Lawyer Jose Daluz III, chair of the MCWD Board, said acting Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia on Monday signed excavation permits, signaling that there is no more hindrance in their effort to address the water crisis.

The excavation permits for distribution lines have been sitting at the Cebu City Hall since March 2023.

Garcia said he is optimistic that the efforts will have positive results in six months.

“If this was signed last year, mountain barangays could have already the water they need,” Garcia said.

Apart from Daluz, the water district’s general manager Edgar Donoso, board members Miguelito Pato, Jodelyn Mae Seno, and media members witnessed the signing of the permits at the city hall.

Daluz thanked the acting mayor for supporting their endeavors, saying this was also his plan to provide water to the constituents.

Following the approval of permits, Donoso said the water district would issue a notice to proceed for the contractors to initiate excavation works. (PNA)
